Discounted Prices on All Tire Brands

There are several considerations to make when buying budget or cheap tires. One is understanding premium brands vs. budget brands. Premium tire brands offered at McWhorter's include Michelin, Goodyear, Firestone, Bridgestone, Pirelli and several others. Budget tire brands sold at our locations include Dunlop, Kelly, BF Goodrich, Kumho, Hankook, Dayton, General, Uniroyal, Cooper and a few additional brands that we have in inventory.

Cheap Tires vs. Premium Tires

Just as a budget or entry level car such as a Chevy Spark, Ford Fiesta or Honda Fit is less expensive than a luxury or mid-size sedan, budget tires tend to be less expensive than premium tire brands. A budget car is likely to meet the needs of commuting to work, but a budget car isn't suitable for driving in extreme conditions, over long distances or racing your next-door neighbor.

Budget tires are similar, in that they can meet the needs of most drivers. However, we see far too many drivers that seek a budget tire for their 2015 Mustang GT or Lexus IS. Don't skimp on a quality tire when you drive a luxury or performance automobile or when your driving habits require a premium tire.

Budget tires are inexpensive due to lower mileage ratings, lasting only to 30,000 miles vs. 60,000 to 80,000 miles for premium tire brands. Budget tires also have lower speed ratings, which many drivers see and assume that if they don't drive near that speed, they can afford a lower quality tire at a lower speed rating. Yet, speed ratings really translate into braking distance (how long it takes to come to a complete stop). Premium tires are safer and translate into better performance in wet and less than ideal conditions.

Although budget tire brands can be cheaper in the short term, compromising safety and frequency of tire replacement in the long term could be more money out of your pocket.

Other Ways to Save Money

Cheap tires are certainly one way to save money on your vehicle, but what about preventative maintenance and service? You will spend far more money on oil changes, wheel alignments, rotations, etc than on the cost of the tire. This is how McWhorter's can save you money over other options in town, even Discount Tire. Many online-only stores also advertise cheap tires, but paying extra for shipping costs, tire mounting and tire repair can outweigh any initial cost savings.

Cheap Tire Inventory

McWhorter locations stock discounted tires in a variety of sizes and brands, both premium and budget. Many of our tires are for consumer cars and light trucks. While all are budget friendly, not all clearance tires are necessarily cheap in quality. Several are the result of purchasing tires in bulk, and since McWhorter has six locations throughout Lubbock, we are the largest purchaser of tires in the area, often giving us the ability to offer affordable options.
